I have been lied to.
Betrayed.
And now, threatened.
With Angelina, it was quick. Sudden.
I was a moth and she was the flame. I had to touch her. I needed a taste. By doing so, my life has completely spiraled.
And then thereâs Colette, and her slew of bullshit.
Sheâs lied to me to over and over again. Sadly, because of that, I no longer crave her love.
Who am I to trust when the world and the people I love seem to be turning against me?
Who is there to fall back on when none of them seem safe enough?
Betrayal no more.
Give a man like me flames, and I will torch anything that stands in my way.
I will burn it right down to the ground.
And yes, that includes the women I care about.
Warning, major cliff hanger!
And the plot thickens….wow I had no words when I finished reading this installment of the Sudden Promises series. This has to be the best love triangle I’ve read so far! The backstabbing, drama, and deceit is more intense. Secrets are brought out of the darkness and into the light. This story continues to get better and better. I’m once again left in shock and I can’t even imagine where this story is going to go from here. Griffin has finally, FINALLY grown a pair, deciding to take charge and do things his way, and I love it! Colette drives me out of my mind but at the same time I love her. She’s so conniving but I can honestly say I admire her resilience. She’s takes what she wants and doesn’t apologize for it. I feel like we saw a bit of a softer side to Angelina. She seemed more vulnerable in this installment though her independence continues to shine through. The connection between her and Griffin is unmistakable. I love these two together no matter their faults. I can’t wait to read the next installment!
âYou canât avoid my questions forever, Colette.â
âI know.â I smile down at him and he watches my eyes, narrowing his in the process.
âYou know what?â
âI know I canât ignore you for long. But, honestly, thereâs nothing to say.â
His eyes are still thin. âYou arenât upset about all of this? Because Iâm fucking pissed. With Gabriel, Colette? Fucking Gabriel? What does he have that I donât?â
I shrug one shoulder, lips pressing together. âNothing really.â And then I grin.
âSo why do it? I have never made you feel lonely. I have always been here for you. I have jumped hurdle after hurdle for you, Colette, and you go and give your body to Gabriel just like that? I fucked up, I know, but I never would have even considered it if youâd actually given me a chance at making you happy again.â He sighs. âI mean, I know we have had our problems, but you should discuss your issues with me. Not him.â
His face softens and sadness masks it. He looks me in the eyes, almost on the verge of tears, his head shaking, face full of disbelief.
Aw. Iâve hurt him. Iâve really done it now.
âIt just happened.â I pull the comforter over my legs.
âThings donât just happen. Not that way, Colette.â
âSo you and Angelina?â I snap. âYou two didnât just âhappenâ?â I fold my arms tightly across my chest.
âNo.â His head shakes, nostrils flaring as he finally looks away from me. âNo, we didnât just happen. She listened. She was there. She understood what was going on with me and sheââ
My lips parts as each thing he says about her feels like a stomp on the chest. I thin my eyes at him, shaking my head with disbelief. âWow,â I breathe. âYou really like this girl, huh?â
He doesnât respond, and really he doesnât have to. I can see it. Itâs written all over him. I should take it as a good sign that heâs using the past tense when in reference to her. Hopefully it means sheâs in the past too.
