River James, the drummer for Steel Total Destruction, loved the brotherhood he formed with his unlikely best friend and his band mates, and the family he found in his label until one tragic accident takes it all away in the blink of an eye. Twisted metal, shattered bones, crushed dreams, and torn wreckage causes deep, dark secrets to be revealed and he quickly turns to the sure things in life: drugs and women. Will he find himself in the wreckage or will he lose his way in the smoke and debris?
The first person in her family to graduate from high school and college, Keanna Sutton is flying high on her accomplishments. She has the career and man of her dreams…or so she thought. While recovering from a break-up she has a chance run-in with a tall, handsome, silver-tongued drummer who tests her strength and ability to hold her own tongue. She desperately tries to ignore the implausible attraction to River – a man she knows will be no good for her. When she finally throws caution to the wind, she finds herself getting rocked the only way a badass like River can: hard and nasty. Will the hottest night of her life end there? Or will she lose herself in a man whose only promise is that a lady always comes first?
River James. Drugs, sex, and rock and roll is all he needs. And yes, in that order. After an unimaginable accident takes it all away, he can either learn to cope and face reality or lose himself completely.
FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for River’s story since we met him in Memphis Black and MJ Fields didn’t disappoint. I love everything about River, especially his dirty mouth. He’s possessive and knows exactly what he wants and when he wants it, no questions asked.
“The chick thinks she hates me, which should be a good reason for me to leave well enough alone, but well, that shit isn’t going to fly with me. I see it as a challenge, and I accept it.”
I could really connect with Keeana. I admire how independent and sassy she is. I can definitely agree with her when it comes to broken boys, there’s just something about them.
“He may not know it, but I am a stupid girl, and like so many others just like me, I am wildly attracted to broken boys. There isn’t a boy I have met who is more broken than River James, though.”
There’s plenty of humor. I was in tears multiple times from laughing so hard. There were also moments where I felt terrible for River. He didn’t have the easiest life growing up and he turned to the one thing that would help him forget. River James is tantalizing and addictive. The story was fast paced with a few twists that truly took me by surprise. MJ had me hooked from start to finish and I can’t wait to read Billy’s story!
