The promises they keep reveal who they are and define who they want to be….
Beckham and Addison are the picture perfect couple. High school sweethearts, still lost in love as they prepare to enter their senior year of college, marriage is a dream that weighs heavily on both of their hearts.
But while Addie is trying to wait patiently for a ring, Beckham has a different proposal in mind. The decision he makes is laced with good intentions, but his journey to self-discovery may cost him the only woman he can imagine being with forever.
Grayson and Avery are just friends. While everyone tries to convince them that their study dates and late night hang outs are proof positive that their feelings are much deeper than they’ll admit to each other, they’re stubborn in their resolve to hide in the safe zone of friendship.
But when Grayson’s best friend and Avery’s twin sister face hard times in their relationship, Grayson begins to question whether or not surrendering to his heart’s bidding—consequences be damned—is what love is all about.
Beckham, Grayson, Addison, and Avery learn that in romance, all they need is love—except for when life is way more complicated than that.
I don’t even know where to begin…I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!! The Promises We Keep spoke to me on so many levels. I was able to connect with each of the characters and the challenges they faced in many ways.
I love RC’s writing style. The story flowed very well and it didn’t seem rushed or predictable. I love that she stayed true to her characters and their faith. I love that her characters’ faith continued throughout the story and that they didn’t stray from the promises that they made not only to themselves but to God. I’m glad that she wrote in each of the four main characters’ POV which gave me the opportunity to really get to know them on a deeper level.
Grayson (oh, how I love me some Gray) is the star quarterback at Colorado St. Grayson is broken. He moved to Colorado to attend college, get away from his past life and start fresh. Grayson is lost. He thinks so poorly of who he is yet he has so much going for himself. It took the love of another for him to really understand his worth. He’s far from perfect, he’s perfectly imperfect.
Beckham (oh, Beck) is the resident nerd, who is in school for pre-Med. He had me so frustrated the ENTIRE book up until the end. I understood his confusion and I understood the decisions he made but that doesn’t mean I was happy about them. The internal challenges that he faced and the way that he responded to them are commendable. I loved that he stayed true to his faith and the plans set before him, no matter what he could have potentially lost as an outcome.
And then there’s the twins, Addison and Avery. I think they’re both adorable in their twin ways. I love how close they are and how they encourage and support one another! When Addie’s Happily Ever After falls apart, she has to really take a step out on her faith and trust that she will end up where she believes she needs to be. Avery is very shy and it’s super cute. I love how she builds more confidence in herself and becomes more outgoing as her story progresses. Through all of the obstacles that she faces, she continues to fight for what she wants while staying true to herself by deciding to wait until marriage to have sex. Avery knows her worth therefore she’s not willing to be with just anyone, she wants to be with THE one, which is a trait that I admire.
All that being said, this is a book that I definitely plan on reading again and I highly recommend it.

Brandon’s dream is finally coming true. His days may be long and hard, but he refuses to complain. He starts every morning in his kitchen, baking his signature pastries. With the students pouring into the college town he calls home any day now, he knows he needs help around the shop. When Sarah, the blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty, walks into Little Bird asking for a job, he can’t refuse her. As her new boss, he tries to convince himself that he can look, but he can’t touch.
When he lets her loose in his kitchen, her broken heart is mended, his battered heart is stolen, and they can’t deny that they both want more. So much more.
R.C. Martin finds it a bit awkward referring to herself in the third person, so she’s only going to do it for this one sentence. (We all know who’s writing this bio anyway!)
I’m a born and bred Coloradan. I will always claim that square state as my home! While I now reside in Virginia, the land of the Rocky Mountains is where I’ve left a piece of my heart and where my characters come to life. I’m a woman in love with love and filled to the brim with compassion for women like me, on a journey to find themselves in today’s society. I aspire to inspire my readers to do more than settle. I hope that my writing will remind everyone that she (or he!) is valuable and worthy of the best kind of love–the kind that is gentle, patient, faithful, passionate, all consuming, never ending, and leaves you breathless.
When I’m not writing I’m reading; when I’m not reading I’m writing…you know how it goes! I also enjoy cooking, baking, crocheting, and jigsaw puzzles. Basically, I’m an old soul with a young heart, nonchalantly waiting for my prince to come.
